Baseworks founder with over 30 years of experience in education, movement & contemplative practices. Established interdisciplinary movement studios in Tokyo, serving an attendance of over half a million students from 2003 through innovative educational programs.
Biologist with expertise in human genetics & neuroscience. Asia “reverse engineered” the Baseworks method from a scientific perspective, creating educational frameworks that explain the neuroscience behind its applications.
Martha Graham revolutionized movement education by developing a technique based on the fundamental principles of breathing, contraction, and release—the ever-present pulsations of life itself.
This pedagogical approach aligns perfectly with Baseworks’ commitment to conscious, transformative physical learning. Like Martha Graham’s work, Baseworks explores the nuanced relationship between tension and relaxation, effort and ease.
The Martha Graham Center continues to be a beacon for innovative movement education, reflecting our shared values of transformative physical learning.

The Baseworks Method is not a fitness program – it’s Physical Intelligence training designed as a shortcut to acquire physical intelligence skills. We focus on movement planning and body awareness rather than targeting muscles. Our methodology helps you develop conscious control over movement patterns through systematic training of sensory awareness. This Study Lab weekend serves as your introduction to the Baseworks Method in an immersive, hands-on environment.
No prior experience is required. The Baseworks Method is designed for individuals of any background. Unlike most exercise methods or movement modalities that assume physical ability, our approach helps anyone understand their unique body step-by-step, regardless of starting point.
All participants must complete 5 hours of pre-study material (1st 5 segments of the online course) before the Baseworks Study Lab weekend, which is very doable. This important online preparation ensures everyone starts on the same page, enhancing the in-person experience and allowing us to dive deeper into practical applications during our time together.
Physical Intelligence (PQ) refers to intuitive understanding and comfort with your body. This includes interpreting sensory signals, maintaining posture, and learning movements consciously. Most methods target muscles, but we target the conscious step in movement production – movement planning.
This is our core framework that you’ll experience directly during the Study Lab. ‘Sense’ develops body awareness and sensory resolution. ‘Control’ builds conscious movement planning abilities. ‘Adapt’ teaches you to modify patterns based on your current state. Each aspect works bidirectionally to enhance Physical Intelligence.
Baseworks emphasizes awareness of limitations as a starting point for development. Our in-person format allows for real-time modifications and personalized guidance. However, always consult healthcare providers for specific medical concerns before attending.
While people interested in these practices can benefit from Baseworks, we don’t categorize ourselves under conventional fitness/wellness methods. We focus specifically on Physical Intelligence (PQ) – developing intuitive understanding of your body through movement planning rather than traditional categories.
Absolutely. The Study Lab is designed to accommodate individuals of all athletic levels. What truly matters is your curiosity and willingness to explore new perspectives. Whether you’re an athlete, dancer, martial artist, experienced yoga practitioner, or movement teacher, the hands-on Study Lab format offers valuable insights you can immediately apply.
Your registration includes the complete weekend program, all materials and equipment needed for sessions, light refreshments during breaks, and access to a follow-up digital resource package. You’ll also receive information about continuing your Baseworks journey after the Study Lab.
The Study Lab provides hands-on experience that makes the broader Baseworks Method more accessible. After the weekend, you’ll be well-prepared to engage with our online practice platform, future workshops, intensives, and advanced training programs. You’ll also receive follow-up resources and information about continuing education opportunities.
