Satoko’s diverse upbringing and her passion for experiential learning led her to embark on a journey into movement and contemplative practices in the early 2000s. Her commitment to these practices deepened significantly in 2007 when she met Patrick Oancia.
Since then, she has dedicated herself to the development of Baseworks and the operations of the Tokyo multidisciplinary practice spaces; JayaDojo and YogaJaya. Her involvement has spanned curriculum development, teaching public classes and workshops, conducting intensive training programs, and coordinating events in Japan, Europe, and North America. Satoko also holds a BA in International Policy from Keio University and a Master in Developmental Studies from the University of East Anglia.
Prior to her work in the realm of movement and contemplation, Satoko had a background in marketing and communications as a Strategic Planner in advertising for Publicis, TBWA, and Beacon Communications, working on brands such as HP, L’Oreal, Adidas, Cartier, 3M, and P&G. She applied her skills to numerous strategic marketing projects and expanded her repertoire to include public speaking, conducting interviews, facilitating discussions, and writing articles. Her fluency in both English and Japanese enabled her to translate and interpret communication materials effectively in both languages.
Presently based in the United States, Satoko wears multiple hats. She serves as a Baseworks faculty member, contributes to the YogaJaya Education programming, offers specialized services as a Personal Trainer, Senior Fitness Specialist, and Nutrition Coach, and pursues studies toward a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. In her leisure time, she delves into expressive arts, combining elements of dance, movement, and art.
