FAQ

The Introductory Track and Experienced Track is how we distinguish whether a program is designed anyone completely new to the method or those with past experience. If you are new to Baseworks, you should start with the Introductory Track, irrespective of your athletic level or movement discipline background.

Some Introductory Track programs are one-off events designed as an introduction to the method. In other cases, such as most of our Study Labs, an Introductory Track program is a package consisting of admission to the in-person Study Lab coupled with the Baseworks Primer Course intended to bridge the gap in understanding the method.

The Experienced Track programs are available for established Baseworks practitioners. Eligibility depends on prior experience, such as completing the Baseworks Primer Course, attending immersions, intensives, certain workshops, or being a long-term platform subscriber or prior student in Japan. To check your eligibility, log in to the site. If you have trouble logging in, please contact us.

The online course offers a practical introduction to Baseworks in short segments (2-20 minutes) that you can review at your own pace. This flexible format complements all in-person learning in the method and helps reinforce movement skills through regular practice.

As a prerequisite, we require that you complete the first 5 segments in full prior to the Study Lab. But doing the whole course is recommended. With this said, the course is designed to fit along side of other commitments. But the course includes a lot of applied practice. For those new to Basework, the more anyone can redo those lessons, the better the Study Lab Experience will be. Also, please note that acsess to the BASE (essentials) practice library only come available after completing the full course,

Study Labs focus on practice, while going deeper into the conceptual and transferable aspects of the Baseworks Method. Whether you’re new or experienced, you’ll work hands-on with the founder and developers to deepen your understanding. Participants often build connections, engage in interactive exercises, and reflect on their experiences both practically and experientially.

Study Groups (and Tokyo studio practice sessions) are shorter and primarily focused on understanding through continuous practice. Other workshops focus on targeted concepts occasionally weaving in other material that compliments Baseworks. Study Labs are a deeper immersion into the method’s applications and supporting theory, where we have enough time to dive into the details both on a practical and conceptual level.

You should be able to stand unsupported and get up from the floor independently. In the Study Lab format, one of the main focuses is on learning to adapt the movements to your own mobility, flexibility, and strength levels. You will never be required to exceed your capacity. To ensure a productive experience given the Study Lab’s long days, prior pre-requisite experience with Baseworks is what makes the experience productive. Contact us if you have mobility concerns or chronic conditions.

In general, Baseworks is suitable for ages above 6 years old. However, Study Labs are designed for adults. If you are under 18 years old and wish to attend, or if you would like for you child below 18 years old to attend, please contact us directly.

Many exercise and movement practices focus on physical results – strength, flexibility,  specific techniques or conceptual frameworks. While these practices can lead to deeper insights, Baseworks is designed specifically for insight. Our method develops awareness and understanding of movement first, which naturally improves both physical and mental capabilities. We encourage a beginner’s mindset, even from experienced individuals, to maximize learning and avoid immediate transfer assumptions.

No, each Study Lab is unique. We emphasize consistent practice because insights deepen with different group dynamics, environments, personal & physical circumstances.
