The Introductory Track and Experienced Track is how we distinguish whether a program is designed anyone completely new to the method or those with past experience. If you are new to Baseworks, you should start with the Introductory Track, irrespective of your athletic level or movement discipline background.

Some Introductory Track programs are one-off events designed as an introduction to the method. In other cases, an Introductory Track program is a package consisting of an Experienced Track program coupled with the Baseworks Primer Course.

The Experienced Track programs are available for established Baseworks practitioners. Eligibility depends on prior experience, such as completing the Baseworks Primer Course, attending immersions, intensives, certain workshops, or being a long-term platform subscriber or prior student in Japan. To get info about our upcoming events, visit this page. To check your eligibility for subsidies, log in to the site. If you have trouble logging in, please contact us.

When you purchase the Baseworks Primer Course as part of an Introductory Track package with an in-person event (e.g., a Study Lab), we specify how much of the course should be completed beforehand. Currently, we require completion of the first 5 segments before the Study Lab, but strongly recommend finishing the entire course.

While designed to fit your schedule, the course includes applied practice. If new to Baseworks, avoid skimming and redo practical lessons multiple times for a better Study Lab experience.

Since the online course is asynchronous, you should be able to stand unsupported and get up from the floor on your own. One of the main objectives in Baseworks is on learning to adapt the movements to your unique mobility, energy, and strength abilities. At the preliminary stage of practice in Baseworks you will always be encouraged to practice within your comfortable physical capacity. Please feel free to contact us if you have mobility concerns or chronic conditions.

The Baseworks Method is designed to be accessible and safe, even for those with limited physical skills and body awareness, emphasizing step-by-step progress at your own level. It focuses on developing both physical prerequisites and “perceptual skills” like body awareness and conscious control, making movement practices more enjoyable and effective. As a beginner, you can expect enhanced physical abilities, heightened sensory awareness, insights into your unique condition, improved resilience, and mental and emotional benefits. Many exercise and movement practices focus on physical results – strength, flexibility, specific techniques or conceptual frameworks. Baseworks develops awareness and understanding of movement first, which naturally improves both physical and mental capabilities. While other practices can lead to deeper insights, Baseworks is designed specifically for insight

We ask all participants—even those with extensive experience in other practices—to approach what we do with fresh eyes. This beginner’s mindset helps maximize learning potential and prevents assumptions that can limit the outcomes.

Baseworks Practice is effective for working on Type I fiber-mediated strength, flexibility, and mobility. It improves body awareness, understanding and control over movements. It also has a positive impact on mental states and capacities, stress regulation and sleep quality.

Baseworks Practice does not replace cardio or heavy lifting workouts, however it can greatly improve performance in these types of activities. In this way, the practice is not exhilarating but rather results in a calm state, stable energypost practice quality.

Baseworks can be used as a primary fitness modality or as a complement to any other activities. Read more

While Baseworks does require focus and presence, mindfulness is not the primary purpose of the method.

Mindfulness practices emphasize relaxation and present moment awareness. Baseworks, on the other hand, focuses on increasing your “sensory resolution”—the quality and quantity of what you can notice and be mindful of. People interested in mindfulness often enjoy Baseworks, as they report it helps develop skills useful for those practices.
