Lecture Description

This lecture, led by Baseworks researcher and co-developer Ksenia Shcherbakova, Ph.D., will bring together core findings, ideas, and techniques derived from over 15 years of research and development in direct interaction with diverse learners. The narrative will be tied to transformative accounts from individuals who have benefited from Baseworks.

A key focus of the discussion will be the critical importance of various distinct forms of body awareness and control across areas such as stress regulation, injury prevention, habit change, and emotional regulation. We will argue for the role of these principles in not only enhancing personal self-understanding but also in extending health span and improving quality of life.

Furthermore, the lecture will emphasize how various Baseworks techniques, born out of rigorous experimentation, align well with the principles of Radical Embodiment theories. It will propose a paradigm shift from viewing the benefits of physical training solely through the lens of its physiological impacts on the muscular, nervous, and cardiovascular systems. Instead, we will explore the idea of positioning people who exercise as autonomous decision-making entities.

The lecture will also include basic demonstrations to illustrate the fundamental principles that underpin the Baseworks method, thus providing a practical understanding of its application.

Asia Shcherbakova

Asia holds a Master of Science in Human Genetics and a Ph.D. in Biotechnology. She has been involved in projects related to the effects of stress on learning and memory, and alongside her research and development for Baseworks, she is now studying the pro-cognitive effects of medium-chain triglycerides. As Baseworks partner and co-developer her mission is to map the method applications onto known neurobiological mechanisms to improve the method’s efficacy and “translate” the pioneering applications, charting them back onto common categories in exercise physiology, other movement practices, and everyday life.
