Lecture Description

Baseworks is a method that blends physical and cognitive training, encouraging individuals to understand and manage their health and well-being. This approach allows people to grasp and respect their own unique physical and mental condition, facilitating physical and perceptual abilities for easy learning, better health, and enhanced living experiences.

We have spent over 15 years interacting with diverse students, studying the struggles some face with body awareness, and tailoring our method to alter habits and thought patterns effectively. In this lecture, Baseworks founder Patrick Oancia and co-developer Ksenia Shcherbakova, Ph.D., plan to discuss their research, theories, and expertise based on accounts from individuals who have benefitted from the Baseworks Method.

The discussion will emphasize the significance of various types of body awareness and control in the management of stress, injury prevention, alteration of habits, emotional regulation, self-understanding, and prolonging and squaring the health span curve.

Additionally, Patrick and Ksenia will share their thoughts on what societal infrastructure changes are crucial for boosting individual capacity for self-care and health responsibility. This is a necessary measure to alleviate pressure on healthcare systems and address issues brought about by an increasingly aging population.

The lecture will include introductory examples demonstrating the fundamental principles of the Baseworks method.

Who is it for

This is a private lecture for clinicians and healthcare professionals who have an interest in exploring the distinct but related areas of the motor system and decision-making processes. The aim is to provide insight on how to build awareness of specific motor aspects and integrate them into physical practices. Ultimately, this may serve as a supplementary approach to enhance patient care and advice.

This event will be conducted in English, with professional Spanish interpretation.

TEACHING FACULTY

Picture of Asia Shcherbakova

Asia Shcherbakova

Asia holds a Master of Science in Human Genetics and a Ph.D. in Biotechnology. She has been involved in projects related to the effects of stress on learning and memory, and alongside her research and development for Baseworks, she is now studying the pro-cognitive effects of medium-chain triglycerides. As Baseworks partner and co-developer her mission is to map the method applications onto known neurobiological mechanisms to improve the method’s efficacy and “translate” the pioneering applications, charting them back onto common categories in exercise physiology, other movement practices, and everyday life.
