Mastering movement in music: Bucaramanga

Share this event:

The Mastering movement in music intensive program is designed for musicians and will focus on the concept that body movements largely occur on an automatic or subconscious level. We will discuss the practical implications of this aspect of neurophysiology for maintaining good health and enhancing musical performance.

The workshop material will provide basic scientific principles and frameworks related to this topic and introduce techniques and applications of the Baseworks method, concentrating on the following key areas:

  • Developing an understanding of “symmetry” to lessen the effects of sustained asymmetrical postures frequently associated with playing instruments.
  • Deconstructing subconscious movement patterns, including those specific to instrument playing, and advancing spatial awareness to enhance posture, elevate movement quality, and provide the potential for individualized discovery of efficient performance habits.
  • Examining the physical nuances of public performance, along with methods that can augment stage presence and the unique conveyance of musical interpretation.
  • Incorporating contemplative practices to go deeper into the interplay between musical practice, personal interpretation, and expression. This includes the introduction of Baseworks methodologies intersecting with facets of transpersonal psychology, cognitive behavioral therapy, and somatics.

Who is it for
This two-day workshop is designed for musicians who are open to employing unconventional learning strategies to deepen their understanding of how technical skills mesh with physical body conditioning and the expressive aspects of performance.

TEACHING FACULTY

Picture of Asia Shcherbakova

Asia Shcherbakova

Asia holds a Master of Science in Human Genetics and a Ph.D. in Biotechnology. She has been involved in projects related to the effects of stress on learning and memory, and alongside her research and development for Baseworks, she is now studying the pro-cognitive effects of medium-chain triglycerides. As Baseworks partner and co-developer her mission is to map the method applications onto known neurobiological mechanisms to improve the method’s efficacy and “translate” the pioneering applications, charting them back onto common categories in exercise physiology, other movement practices, and everyday life.
