This is how one of our students described Baseworks:

It is a movement practice that will help you gain a better awareness, a lot of strength and flexibility, and better control over yourself and your mind. And also if you just want to workout, it’s also great.

It is true that many people significantly improve strength, flexibility, mobility, as well as cognitive states and capacities with Baseworks. But can Baseworks Practice replace a workout?

It depends on many factors.

Is Baseworks good for strength training?

The movements in Baseworks are slow, and the heaviest weight you would use is the weight of your body. Therefore, the Baseworks practice is not a cardio exercise and does not engage the Type II muscle fibers. Therefore, if your idea of a workout is cardio and heavy lifting, then no, Baseworks cannot replace that.

On the other hand, if by thinking of a “workout,” you are thinking of working on physical capacities, such as working on Type I fiber-mediated strength, flexibility, and mobility, then yes, Baseworks can provide that 100%. Typically, we do not do many repetitions, but rather focus on the form and understanding and control of the movement. It can be challenging, or it can be very gentle, as we have an easy protocol to adopt execution of any form/exercise/movement task to one’s goals and condition.

Here are some examples of the forms that we use to build strength. Essentially, Baseworks Principles and movement patterns can be applied to almost any movement. So you can also extend Baseworks to other exercises.

The Mental Aspect

If you are looking for the feeling of exhilaration, although some people manage to get it from a Baseworks Practice session by approaching it with the mindset of “I am going to push myself as much as I can,” this is not what we recommend, and, arguably, if this is how you are approaching Baseworks, you are not doing Baseworks.

However, Baseworks does significantly impact mental states and capacities. Nowadays, when ‘mental health’ scores higher than ‘getting in shape’ as the main motivation for exercise, if you idea of a workout is physical activity that will positively affect you mentally, Baseworks can provide that as well. People, who have tried Baseworks, both in-person and online, typically report feeling more relaxed, having more mental clarity and better sleep, having calm stable energy after practicing Baseworks.

Primary Modality or Body Conditioning

Baseworks Practice could be utilized as one’s primary fitness modality to improve physical and mental shape, health, and well-being. But for those already committed to something else, it could also be a conditioning and insight-generating tool to complement other activities. Many students told us that they apply the quality of focus/attention/breathing/muscle engagement to other types of training.

We currently still offer a free onboarding call to all Platform subscribers. So, if you have questions about how to best use Baseworks in your unique situation, we would be happy to chat about it.
