Preconceptions in Movement Goal Setting

Movement is a Goal-oriented behavior. Although you can find this statement in any textbook about motor learning, it may not necessarily sound immediately intuitive, relevant, or important.

However, it is extremely relevant and extremely important if you want to change your habits or learn new movement skills.

In this VS, we will first look at the “movement goal preconceptions” that we hold about daily movements. We will also discuss how these preconceptions may set us up for chronic injuries or prevent effective relearning.

As we say in the Baseworks Method, to overcome a limitation, we first need to become aware of it. Recognizing one’s unconscious movement preconceptions is the first step to getting rid of old habits.

Then we will unpack a few key Baseworks movement principles and their goals. This will help avoid falling into habitual movement patterns when practicing Baseworks.

This session will be approximately 10% theory, 10% self-reflection, and 80% practice.

What are virtual Sessions?

Virtual Sessions are a “live” educational format offered on the Baseworks Practice Platform.

Whereas the Online Practice Sessions are designed to provide the opportunity to develop your practice through repetition, the Virtual Sessions are designed to provide real-time feedback and insight, which can then be re-applied during the Online Practice Sessions.

The level of interactivity in the Virtual Sessions is dependent on the interest/involvement of the participants and may vary from session to session.

Each virtual session lasts from 60 to 90 minutes.
