This session is open to both newcomers and long-time students from Japan. It offers an opportunity for everyone to come together for a day of focused practice and shared learning. Participants will also be introduced to new material.

Agenda:

  • Exploration of foundational movement patterns in the Baseworks Method to enhance body awareness and refine movement skills.
  • Techniques for adapting movements to your current physical and mental state, recognizing habits, and responding to bodily cues for effective practice.
  • Development of Physical Intelligence (PQ) to deepen body understanding, maintain posture, optimize muscle use, and acquire new movement skills.

Flow/Schedule:

  • 1st Practice Experience
  • Movement Analysis: Group work identifying movement patterns & habits.
  • 2nd Practice Experience
  • Perspective & Physical Intelligence: Group work/ sharing

Ksenia Asia Shcherbakova

Ksenia Asia Shcherbakova holds a Master of Science in Human Genetics and a Ph.D. in Biotechnology.
She joined Baseworks as a science consultant to investigate the neurobiological basis of the method's effects, and has since developed the conceptual frameworks used to describe and teach it. Her research for Baseworks has been presented at international neuroscience conferences, and a parallel line of her work examines how movement, conceptual thought, and linguistic expression function as integrated cognitive processes. She also participates in an ongoing study of the neuroprotective mechanisms of medium-chain triglycerides; her scientific publications appear under her birth name, Ksenia Shcherbakova.

Patrick Oancia

Patrick Oancia is the founder of Baseworks. His background spans competitive athletics, music, and more than three decades of movement and contemplative practice. He directed multidisciplinary movement studios in Tokyo for two decades, where the teaching standards and curriculum that became the Baseworks Method took shape over tens of thousands of hours of instruction. He leads programs, hosts the Baseworks Transmission podcast, and collaborates with artists, scientists, and educators worldwide to connect movement education with current research on perception, learning, and cognition.
